Imparting Squizzdom Since 2007

Stocks, Sports and Politics. A strange brew to be sure, but thems is the things that me likes. Of course, occasional musings about other things I'm fond of (my wife, Apple Computers, movies, Civilization III... cruel temptress!) will weasel their way in too. Be amused. Be moved. Be warned. —The Squizz

pLAYOFF BEARD - Day 3

Another day, another bit-o-growth. Haven't heard any news yet today on the job searches of former Kolarfolks. I'll post any changes.

So here is the list of Kolarites looking for work. If you are interested, please get in contact with the folks at Kolar (visit KolarAdvertising.com for contact info).

I thought about striking through the three who have found work already, but it can't hurt for them to hear an offer from a competing agency, right? So I'm leaving the full list up. So this is the first full "doing it the way I said I would last week".

pLAYOFF BEARD - Day 2

Okay... day one of my layoff beard was a glorious success. I shaved in the morning and was all clean and what not. I didn't post a "baby-face" pic, cuz I got so busy with work (we do have less people here ya know).

How is day one a "glorious success" you ask? Well, between the time I announced the project and day one, three former Kolar folks already got gigs! So technically, mission accomplished, right?

Not so fast. Amending the original plan now and upping the number to 5. So two more Kolar peeps need to get jobs before I'm allowed to shave my beard.

The Playoff Beard

So many of you know what an NHL "Playoff Beard" is. For the unenlightened, it is the hairy result of a superstition in hockey when players shave on the opening night of the playoff and lest they insult the hockey gods and jinx their chances, they refuse to shave until they've won the Stanley Cup.

For more on this awesome tradition, check out wikipedia.

But that's not what this post is about. No sir.

Starting on Monday, August 10, 2009, I will be turning this time-honored tradition on its ear for another good cause... getting my friends and ex-colleagues full-time jobs.

Introducing the "Layoff Beard"

As many have heard, Kolar Advertising and Marketing (where I work) had to lay off some of its staff last week. Everyone who was let go is an amazing individual with many talents. Unfortunately economics trumped great talent and they are out of work.

In an effort to do what I can to help out some great folks, I'll shave on the morning of the 10th, and won't shave again until at least three of my erstwhile colleagues has found gainful employment.

I'll post a photo of my face's progress each day and any updates on the former Kolarites and their job searches.

Each day, I'll also post the list of the workers and the contact information for a representative at Kolar that can be reached, if you see someone that fits at your agency/shop/firm.

(For the sake of privacy, just their positions and years of experience will be posted.)

Why?

Why not? Any extra attention they can get can only help, right? Why me? Clearly they can't do it themselves right... much harder to get hired when looking like Grizzly Adams. So I'll deal with the ugly mug (and unhappy wife), while they go clean-shaven into interviews and get that kick-ass job.

What about you?
Glad you asked. If you know of any jobs in advertising/marketing/design let me or the soon-to-be-linked Kolar contact (in the first Layoff Beard post, that is).

Additionally, if you know anyone in need, grow you own Layoff Beard for them, and post your hirsute images to Facebook, Twitter or your own blog. The format for the info for each day's post will be as follows:

[PICTURE]
-Day 1 (or 2, 3 or whatever)
-person/people you're growing for (position/experience/etc)
-objective (fulltime job/parttime job/contract/etc)
-city(ies) they'd like to work in

That's it. Easy. The more people that do this, the more likely we can get these great people into good jobs more quickly.

Let's do it.

See you Monday.

Galo!!!

The top of the Brasileirão this year is super crowed. Loving it. My for-real team (Clube Atlético Mineiro) is right there in the thick of things (three points back of first place).

My boys haven't won the Brazilian first division championship since its first official year (1971). I'm so excited about it.

Now, my backup-team (São Paulo Futebol Clube) has won a lot lately, but it's just not the same... same issue in hockey (Stars won in 1999... but the Maple Leafs are Cupless since 1967 (tear)). I want the real thing.

Here's to continued success.
